Welcome to the next major Reckless Life arc, Dinner and a Robbery. Rom-coms are one of my favorite guilty pleasures (especially at Christmas) and this is my tribute to the genre.
Dinner and a Robbery remains one of my favorite Reckless Life stories for a lot of reasons. While Dylan Daniels was far and away the most popular member of the RL supporting cast, Paige was always my favorite. Is she a bit of a manic pixie dream girl? Yes, without question. I know the 25-year-old version of me who wrote this was doing his best. Speaking of:
[QUICK DISCLAIMER - this story has a lot of gender and relationship humor in it and it was written by a less evolved version of myself. I find a few of the jokes kinda cringy now. Your mileage may vary but I apologize in advance for any misogynistic humor. Please know that I'm a little more mature now.
Even if I did put my female lead in a sexy nurse outfit, the chemistry between Locke and Paige still works for me. I know they’re my creations and not actors but some characters do seem to work better together organically and I really think that’s the case here. The Bonnie and Clyde montage is pretty adorable.
Another reason Dinner and a Robbery is a personal favorite is this story really moved the ball forward when it comes to the artwork. You can tell right from the cold open that things have improved dramatically. Locke’s voice is much closer to later RL stories as is the tone and pacing of the story in general.
If you love to poke fun at heist movie and rom-com tropes or maybe want to see an action hero get drunk and sing karaoke then this is the story for you!
