I’m not typically inclined to swim in the sort of schmaltzy waters that phrases like “the most important part is the friends we made along the way” but when it comes to my time in webcomics I will indulge that one a little. As I read the other work on Graphic Smash I noticed another creator, Justin Pierce, seemed to have similar sensibilities to me. He was also from Wisconsin and, based on a comment on his forum, also hated the band Creed. This was enough for me to email him with the general message: "Let's be friends!" And so we are.
As comic book-making friends do, we decided to do a crossover. Blue Suede Skin is my half. At the same time, Locke appeared in Kilroy and Tina, Justin’s comic. Kilroy and Tina took place in the present day and Reckless Life in a nebulous future but there’s a lot in both out stories that doesn’t quite check out. This story wasn't designed to make a ton of sense and feel very in-keeping with the tone established in Locke and the Las Vegas Ninjas.
Kilroy and Tina also disappeared with Graphic Smash so the other half is lost but if you want a flavor of how that might have gone, Justin did a subsequent comic called The Non-Adventures of Wonderella. If you dig through the archives you may even find an episode that I did. If you do, let me know. Seriously, I can't even find it. I think it was like 2008-ish?
In keeping with the experimental nature of my short stories, this episode did away with standard page sizes and each page was as long as it needed to be. The added line mileage didn’t help the art and like most shorts, the art in this story is worse than what came before and after it. It’s also the only time any color other than red appears in Reckless Life.
Thanks for bearing with me on this one. I wanted to post it for posterity even if it doesn't make a ton of sense out of the crossover context and also features a joke that requires one to remember a Taco Bell ad from 2002.
